Kemp and Kershaw are first time All-Stars

The All-Stars have been announced, and congratulations go out to Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw for representing the Dodgers. Each will be going for the first time, and Kemp will earn a starting nod in the outfield.

There's really no surprise here, as despite the mediocre year the Dodgers have had, Kemp and Kershaw have still managed to shine. Where would this team be without Kemp in center everyday and Kershaw going every five days? I can't even imagine.

Kemp has done it all this year, and is an early MVP candidate because of it. Check out his stats: .327 AVG, .401 OBP, 52 runs, 92 hits, 22 homers, 17 doubles, 2 triples, 64 RBIs, 43 walks, and 22 stolen bases. Wow, that's quite a year, and it's only halfway over.

Kershaw has morphed into the unquestioned ace of the staff in his fourth season. He's thrown 122 2/3 innings for an 8-4 record, 3.23 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 97 hits, and 138 strikeouts. Plus, he's thrown three complete games, with two of them shutouts.

One more person who has a chance to be an All-Star is Andre Ethier, who is on on the Final Vote along with Ian Kennedy, Shane Victorino, Michael Morse, and Todd Helton. If elected, it would be Ethier's second straight appearance.
